The Music alphabet and the 7 syllables

Seven sevens are naturally designed for children to learn the musical concepts, such as the music alphabet, the music syllables. However, the music alphabet and the 7 syllables are part of the a bigger spectrum of knowledge. Students with learning needs can be helped through music

The 7 notes and the 7 rests

The seven sevens design needs to be an integrant part of the musicianship of every educator, along side of music teachers. The notes and the rests demonstrate the importance and value of symbols. However, music symbols are unique because they affect people ‘s lives in ways that change lives. Music is practically present in every aspect of human endeavors: entertainment, therapy, profession, education. Everybody can identify with some kind of symbol.

The 7  sharps and the 7 flats

The sharps and the flats are represented by some of the most popular symbols. The symbols for the sharp is an hashtag, number sign. Its definition hold for face value: it raises a note by half a tone also known as step, or pitch. The flat in other words does not match the definition: lowering the note by half tone, steps or pitch. Those two musical symbols

Instructor: Edmond Saint-Jean

A highly skilled professional, Edmond Saint-Jean is a passionate and experienced Educator, musician, linguist, Interpreter, translator.

Edmond has championed that music literacy and technology go hand in hand. Every music theory he teaches can be immediately demonstrated using various educational platforms namely, flipgrid, google slides, book creator and many more. The pandemic era has brought to light a renewed interest in the individual academic achievement through technology.

He puts a lot of emphasis in the lost and vanishing art of reading, writing, and arithmetic. Those tools are at the center of music education. Technology does not replace those basic tools, it enhances them.

Edmond goes back to basics as he rephrases the way music is taught at all levels of the learning process. For instance, the 7/7s begin with the music alphabet which is comprised of the first 7 letters of the standard alphabet. A B C D E F G. The sequence remains throughout the musical journey of the amateurs and professional musicians alike. Learn more by becoming a member of my www,youtube.com/cesttresvrai

The cafeteria is a different place when Mr. Saint-Jean begins his morning melodies on the piano. Wilkinson Elementary School is excited to have Mr. Saint-Jean amongst his rank. Saint-Jean comes to us by way of New York. He holds Bachelor and Master of Arts degrees in Music Education From Brooklyn College……..

Excited to teach the students of Wilkinson Elementary, Mr. Saint-Jean has already begun plan for a Back-to-School night mini-concert and a full holiday program.

Mr. Saint-Jean has organized his room beautifully. He is fully set to expose children to choral singing, categories of instruments and musical history. His class design reflects his sincere dedication to teaching.

Mr. Saint-Jean is trained in many instruments: piano, guitar, recorder, voice, and has agreed to favor us with selections from his repertoire during breakfast each morning. Mr. Saint-Jean exposes the children to many genres of music by sharing his talent each day. We expect that the children will become inspired to learn music through exposure to live performances.

One thing is for certain, Wilkinson school is a much more diverse and rich environment with Mr. Saint-Jean among our ranks.

I worked with Edmund for one school year 2002-2003 at Highland Elementary in Silver Spring. I found him to be hard-working and eager to take suggestions from me. He had many skills that enabled him to be an effective teacher. I discussed the daily plans with him, and was able to collaborate with him on special classes, such as chorus. Edmond has a creative approach that works very well with many students. (more…)

Our acquaintances go back over two decades. We were both fond of music and we look it from there. So much so, that the birth of Lyre Edenique, a group that we formed naturally came together. Although years younger than I, his interest, so remarkable and gratifying that he had been entrusted to be the keeper of all documents (some of which he still has today). As time went by, life threw us in different directions. It was until years later that our paths met again. Except this time, the adolescent that I had come to know was a mature, fully achieved musician. I am getting a masters degree in music, he stated at the start of our conversation.

Needless to say that he graduated with honors at the top of his class. Now he is a music thrapist, a music teacher, and a choir director, just to name a few. He sleeps, breathes, and lives music. He has made music his life, and therefore excels in it. He is able to teach a choir a few songs in a short period of time and have them sing shortly after. Gifted you ay ask? Yes, I agree. I am proud to be his pal. I am also pleased that I was there when it all started. May the Lord richly bless and continue to use Edmond St. Jean. Way to go Edmond!
